I don't think I've had the HopSlam... Bell's Brewery seems to be just starting to creep into the area; I've been seeing a lot of their excellent beers lately and I think In & Out was the first to have them. However, I have had Victory's HopWallop ale which I would bet is similar; also not quite the same as Nugget Nectar, but very hoppy and delicious. I think it's a winter release, so we may have missed it. I also recommend Weyerbacher's Double Simcoe IPA which I believe is only sold in 22 oz. bottles.
Dogfish Head actually has one of the best Double IPA's you can get, their 90 Minute IPA. Not nearly as hoppy as the newer "big beers" out there in the DIPA category, it's much more drinkable than it should be at 9% ABV. I know In & Out carries it. Been meaning to try the 120 Minute IPA, but at nearly $9 per 12 oz. bottle, I just haven't been able to do it yet.
Speaking of DFH, they have a brewpub in Gaithersburg. Worth the trip if you can make a day out of it; the food is great and they have some of their lesser known beers on tap sometimes. Plus it's the only place you can get the "75 Minute IPA" which is the 60 and 90 minute mixed together from the tap. |

Last weekend I picked up a case of Stone Ruination IPA at In-and-Out that was, um, highly effective.
And extremely tasty... Highly recommended, but pricey...

Stone Ruination is great, but their money beer has to be Arrogant Bastard (which they now serve at Relax in 22 oz. bottles). There's also a hard-to-find oak-aged version that is excellent.
I'm hesitant to buy a whole $40+ case of it though; the big beers I usually go for in MD, unless I know I'm going to keep a few in the fridge for a long, long time. |

The Ruination was $48. Ouch. I do that like three times a year. The Arrogant Bastard is fantastic too.
When I want cheaper fare, I usually go with some variety from Victory.

When it comes to the archaic "case law" in PA, I find that the best bang for my buck is in variety cases. Unfortunately, a lot of the best beers aren't available as part of varieties, and the "all-at-once" price for a case of quality, craft beer can be a bit daunting. Add that to a lack of selection and further inflated pricing at bars and taverns, and you're left with little to choose from. Plus, there's always that 18% "Johnstown Flood Tax" on all alcohol in the state that was enacted in 1889 and is now merely a further reminder that Pennsylvanians who drink responsibly are hurt by antiquated laws that defy common sense and plain sanity.
Now, after work on Friday, I just have to decide if I want to try my luck at In & Out, or head "south of the border."

I'm up to 446  |
