Unfortunately Baker's Loaf has closed its doors as of this past Monday.
Sunday hours would be wonderful but as far as downtown is concerned it's the weekday lunch crowd that keeps the money rolling in. Downtown has made progress yet there is still much to be done.
Thanks to this thread I was reminded of Ginger House tucked behind Dunkin Donuts. Stopped in today for what I consider the best Chinese in town, still not as good as I've experienced elsewhere unfortunately. |

Good riddance to Baker's Loaf; I hope that a consumer-friendly proprietor can take the existing equipment there and provide the downtown with a real, local bakery. I've tried going there several times over the past year or so only to find it closed no matter when I would go.
There's a lot of talk on the Mayor's blog about revitalizing downtown. One thing mentioned was showing a wider variety of films at the Capitol, such as Independent, foreign and special interest films.
Also, they have procured a special "Economic Development Zone" liquor license for a bistro that is opening. |

loved ihop, southgate and the movies there. i am waxing nostalgia here but i think that at that moment in time 'our end of town' was nice...no need to go to the crappy scotland, er chambersburg, mall..... |

Yeah, things were different back then at that area, funny almost every town that I know has had the places that were good has gone bad, and the bad places have become good. I can remember as a child my mom going to the shopping center and we walked to the Cinema and then would walk over to the Chinese place after it to meet back up. I was only in 6 or 7th grade then. My daughter is going to be 15 and I would not let her do that today in the same place |

Carlilse flipped, more so around on Pitt Street, the bad area is now cleaned up. South Gate in Chambersburg just fell ..I dont know what happened, I guess the Mall |

Carlisle has some bright spots (RIP Salamandra  ) like Amy's Thai, California Cafe, MCP and even Hanover Grille. And, my all time pick for best restaurant in the entire area, Piatto; real Italian food instead of that stuff they overcharge for at Rillo's.
Piatto is on Pitt Street I believe.
I also like the Carlisle G-Man for a quick beer or a great bowl of soup (the tomato bisque is awe inspiring). |

I love all those places plus the Stromboli place by the 720 bar. If you like soup Shipp use to have a restaurant called Burkhart's ( where the G-Man use to be) and they had the best French Onion soup. Also are you old enough to remember the Keg in Shipp?
