I think there's something like six weeks of empty calendar before the Pa. primary.
Six weeks. It's mind-boggling. It's an eternity.
All these candidates will have nothing to do but crawl the hills of Pennsylvania. Some are starting to call this year's Pa. primary the Super Iowa.
Anyone want to take odds on who we see first in central Pa.?
I'll say: Ric Flair, 2:1...

I agree to disagree with Dave. I used to have a crush on him, but then he made a cheap shot on Topix about 'invaders' and hurt my feelings.
I hate to seem like a crowd pleaser, BUT
You all make very valid points, no one has resorted to Topix or Haloscan tactics. I may disagree with some of your points, but I thank you all for the way in which you contribute.

So a candidate's likelihood to be assassinated - as if that could be quantified in first place - is a meaningful criterium by which to evaluate them?
I disagree.
Because in this political environment, you could make the same argument about Hillary. Or discuss whether, at 72, McCain will live through his first term.
It's a distraction from more meaningful analyses. It lends credence to and legitimizes an ugly side of American society. We've already allowed terrorists to rob us of our 4th Amendment, and so I'd prefer they not influence our thinking when it comes to presidential elections.
People get struck by lightning all the time, and yet somehow everyone manages to leave the house once in a while...

You could make the same argument for President Bush, but he's still kicking.
I think there are a lot of things in place to ensure the President's safety these days.
I agree with Torgo above; there's not reason to legitimize a conversation on American bigotry; we should focus more on the fact that our next president may very well be a woman or a black man.
If that's not progress in and of itself, I don't know what is. |

I can differentiate between good people, buddies and leaders. 
I have always admired the discipline on the side of the Republican party.
Coulter and Limbaugh may rant and shriek, but they will vote for McCain over anyone the Democrats put out. Meanwhile, the Democratic party seems destined to be torn asunder by the time a candidate is nominated.
It shouldn't be this heated, this early.

I've heard Huckabee talk; he's even been on Colbert and Bill Maher's show a few times. He's likable, friendly and has a legitimate sense of humor.
He's just a doofus. I'd have a beer with him, but he's probably a teetotaler. |

I don't know; there are some real Hillary hating democrats out there, but I don't think there's as much division among democrats between Hillary and Obama as there are with the Republicans, particularly those who hate McCain for being too moderate. McCain spoke at a rally today attended by just republicans; he was booed and people had signs proclaiming that McCain isn't a Republican.
I think that many republicans really are self-righteous enough to abstain from voting and complain endlessly for 4 years rather than vote for who their party nominates. |

My politics differ from McCain's, but I always respected him. Until recently, that is. Did anyone see the excerpt from the article on Hillary Clinton? He apparently answered the question someone asked, "How do we beat the ***?" with “Excellent question!”

Yeah, I watched the video clip on that.
I enjoyed reading the article you posted. It raised some feelings I thought I had tamped down.
I think I'd still vote for McCain before Obama, depending on V.P. selection and how much further right McCain goes.
I love and hate election years
...I may have to pull out the liquor bottles, wine may not cut it.
