They have a storied history, great players and big market appeal on their side. Kids grow up knowing who they are (even if your home team hated them). Very few if given a chance would NOT want to don the pinstripes and go for it all. However, the players appear to finally have had enough with the departure of Torre and now A-Rod. Yet the media continues to air rhetoric from the owners and even portrays anyone not following their lead in any negative light they can drum up.
I think it's time the Steinbrenners left and were replaced by owners with a little more class and brains. Only then can they return to their heyday and be a great franchise and not simply the best money could buy!

Steinbrenner's sons are beginning to take over more control. The problem is, that while Daddy was/is a blustering blowhard he had earned the right to be eccentric. His sons come in with all of Daddy's attitude but none of his history. They haven't earned %*&@ but think they can come in and push Torre around. Then (and I'm not defending A-Rod in totality here) they try to paint A-Rod as a money hungry jerk, when his contract stipulated that he must opt out by the end of the World Series and with some of teammates leaning towards leaving, but still undecided, he had to make a decision.
I'd hate to be last man on a possibly sinking ship, too. AND I think the fact he walked away from that much money (with the Yanks offering to sweeten the pot also) without a guaranteed contract is pretty impressive and says alot about where the Yankees are heading if they don't get an attitude adjustment on the walking wallets.
But what do I know, I'm just a Braves fan! _________________ I demand euphoria! |

Keep in mind that Steinbrenner was the owner back when the Yankees were lousy and Yankees fans everywhere blamed it all on him. Then, when they started winning again, he was their hero. I'm a Mets fan and all I can say is "boo hoo, it must be soooo hard to be a Yankees fan."
The Yankees teams that dominated in the early 90's didn't have ridiculously stacked all-star lineups. They won 114 games in 1998, and with a lineup that included names like Knoblauch, Brosius, Chad Curtis and Paul O'Neill. These weren't perennial all-stars or the top-paid players in the league, or at least not like Jason Giambi or A-Rod. And remember the Randy Johnson disaster last year? Those dominant Yankees teams were build from the ground up on a pretty good farm system, and everyday players were used to fulfill needs.
And no, it was not cool that Boras made the announcement about A-Rod during the World Series. |

I doubt A-Rod will go to LA, and I just hope my beloved Mets disregard any possibility of picking up and (and potentially moving Reyes or Wright to another position). Here's a fun story though:
| ESPN wrote: | Spurred by an offhand remark from George Steinbrenner's son, the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens want in on the A-Rod sweepstakes.
The Mud Hens playfully offered the prize free agent a deal Thursday -- a contract proposal that includes a bonus for hitting 75 home runs next year and leading them to 10 straight International League titles.
Rodriguez recently opted out of his $252 million, 10-year contract with the New York Yankees. That prompted Hank Steinbrenner, son of the Yankees owner, to tell the New York Times: "Does he want to go into the Hall of Fame as a Yankee, or a Toledo Mud Hen?" |
My guess for A-Rod next year? The Cubs. |
