Just for Coppy

Quote:

Rocker admits to Steriod Use and claims Selig knew
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

John Rocker, the former Braves pitcher, has been a friend of the Regular Guys for years. On Monday morning, he spoke with them and fessed up about steroids.

According to the story:

Former major league pitcher John Rocker said Monday that baseball commissioner Bud Selig knew he failed a drug test in 2000 and that doctors for the “league” and the “players association” advised him and several Texas Rangers teammates on how to effectively use steroids.

Rocker, no stranger to controversy, made those comments on Atlanta radio station Rock 100.5.

John Kincade and Buck Belue got more from Rocker later that day.

“Bud Selig knew in the year 2000 John Rocker was taking the juice,” the former pitcher said Monday of the baseball commissioner on Atlanta radio station 680, according to the Associated Press. “Didn’t do anything about it.”

This differs from the story he told ESPN a year ago when he downplayed steroid use by baseball players.

As part of the collective bargining agreement, The drug that was detected was not known. John Rocker is a liar. He is feeling left out of the current baseball scandel and wants a piece of the action.
Chel thanks for bringing this subject.
What does everyone think about the Congressional hearings on the Mitchell Report and Baseballs blind eye towards steriod use.
I think Congress has a war to worry about! Baseball has taken great strides in the past 2 years to try and clean up, none of the substances mentioned in the Mitchell report were banned when the accused were using them.

It's such a tired story. The MLB should start testing regularly, enforce their penalties and get on with their lives.

I have to agree.
Congress has no place in sports.

OTOH
I'm glad Bond's ball was branded with an asterisk before being sent to the Hall of Fame---I even voted for it. I've heard the arguments of people who say it was of historical importance, but I think the anger of the fans who want 'purity' brought back to the sport is of historical importance too.

(And congressional involvement is what got the ball rolling on real change)

As for the drugs being injected prior to rules being written that said it was 'bad'...It's hard for me to believe that, as they watched other people get in trouble for it, they said well, yeah, but it's still okay for us because no one mentioned baseball specifically. If these gents didn't think it was wrong, why did they hide it? Why do some still continue to deny it?

So, while I believe that MLB should be policing itself, without the help of politicians, something, IMHO, needs to be done about steriod use.

It is hard for me to really enjoy watching the game anymore, I follow half-heartedly. I'm no expert, but I think, for me, the strike beat the crap out of it and performance enhancers put it on life support.
I hope Major League Baseball gets well soon.

Coppy,
While I believe that some drugs do make you irrepairably stupid, if you want to figure out why Rocker is the way he is, you need only listen to his rural Jawja daddy speak.
I believe we've discussed the downsides of my home state on another thread---rest assured, Rocker fits that mold. Sad

Rumor has it that Roger Clemens' trainer personally injected Clemens in the butt.

The trainer also reportedly gave Clemens steroids.

Wasn't that related to him bleeding through his designer pants?

He looked really bad during the questioning.
