My mom always used to tell me to "read up" my room. She also says "outen the lights." We were talking about regional phrases and stuff like that once here, and no one knew what I meant by either of those things.

i'm from north of pittsburgh , we always say rid up. i've never heard read up.

as far as cleaning, saying warsh always cracks me up (my dad says it too)

i think there is a laugh accent down here, mainly amongst girls.

Read has two pronunciations. For clarity, the phrase is actually "red up."

I believe it's an old, Appalachia phrase.

My mom used to say warsh, then she got tired of me yelling at her Laughing

My aunt says "wish" instead of warsh.

One of the phrases my Mom has passed down to me is "missed your dip". Which means, when you are driving down a street or road and you missed the turn you wanted to make onto another street.

Uh, can we include translations with some of these? (Like Koozie just did, TY Koozie!)

What do ya'll call roads that parallel the interstate up here? We call them access roads, but DH's people call them something else.

And do you have a sofa or a couch at your place?
