Can someone explain just what we are gaining by backing traffic up all the way from one end of town to the other...?
Traffic used to flow freely thought that intersection with no problems whatsoever.
Now traffic backs up so far into town - it causes congestion at all the other intersections.
Property values are going down.
All those engines idling in that traffic is a slap in the face to all the PA Guard that just got called up. What a waste of energy!
I would love to hear an explanation from someone who considers the light to be an asset or improvement.
What are they going to do when the bank is finished? How the heck are people going to get in and out of there???? Will you be able to go west on 16 when you pull out of the bank? HOW? _________________ Do everything that's in you, you feel to be your part... |

It saves the cop from directing school traffic at the "Y" for a half hour in the AM & PM.
Screw the rest of us in traffic. |

| If I am not mistaken the light was installed for safety reasons, and it was a project that took years to get done. I think you are going over board about having to sit for a while and it has caused property values to decrease. You must not get out of town to often we only have 2 traffic signals your road rage must really increase when yo travel to the big city to visit walmart. |

| I grew up in the Mercersburg area and saw so many close calls at that intersection including one where cars traveling in both directions on 16 moved into the left lanes and passed each other to avoid collisions. With the increased traffic and future further increased traffic, I think it is a wise decision to have a light there BEFORE a serious accident occurs. |

I have also noticed the increased traffic problem but I would rather sit in traffic waiting for a light to change than to sit and wait for an accident to be cleared. I think the new light is greatly beneficial to those of us coming from Rt 416. Although I would like to see it stay green a bit longer on 416 than it does. |

jeezzz - I've lived here for 30 years - and cant remember any accident I would call serious - nor do I remember waiting for an accident to be cleared.
How has the light prevented accidents? Fairly sure there has been a few accidents since the light went in...
Can someone explain how people will be able to get in and out of the new bank parking lot? If you are going west on 16 - how will you turn left???
Sorry - this is one of those instances where the cure is worse than the sickness.... _________________ Do everything that's in you, you feel to be your part... |

If it took years to plan - they must have had specific statistics and goals. Have those goals been achieved? Have there been any negative side-effects?
Does the negative outweigh the positive? Trading one problem for ten doesn't make much sense.
In not as concerned about waiting as I am the sound, look, smell of all that traffic idling through town every afternoon. The town was nicer without it. The same amount of traffic will move through town...just not as congested.
It has also become very inconvenient to access some of the local businesses...ask anyone who goes to "Curves" - Its hard to get in and out of there during rush hour. I'm sure it affects many Main St. businesses negatively.
Pretty clear the new light makes the other light dysfunctional during rush hour as well. People regularly get stuck mid-intersection and clog up incoming traffic from the side streets. The light might be green on but you cant move because Main St traffic is stuck in the intersection.
I dont think it's going overboard to ask for some accountability. _________________ Do everything that's in you, you feel to be your part... |

Yep, you have to watch those accidents when cars are zipping at 25 mph.
I have seen traffic backed up way post the post office.
I guess you can prevent accidents by making cars sit still. Have you seen all the cars zippin around the narrow back streets tryin to get around the traffic - that surely isn't safe.
I'm with TH, dump the new light or turn it on only during school arrivals & departures. |

| Adding new traffic lights seem to be a disease in Franklin County. I think many of these loony would like one at each intersection. That would slow us down to the 1930, horse and buggy era. |

Instead of racing down the back streets to beat the lights, why doesn't everyone try to be nice to the cars trying to turn in at Curves and let them in. As for accidents at these intersections, there have been numerous ones, and some serious in the past 25 years. People DO NOT go the posted speed limit.
And for those that are stuck first in line at the lights...try staying behind the big white line that is painted on the streets....these are placed there for 2 reasons...to stay back far enough to trip the sensor for the light, AND so vehicles like trucks and school buses have enough room to turn at the intersections with stopping traffic or making people back up. |
