OK.
this just may not be my week. i have woken up on the wrong side every day. so i apologize if this sounds short tempered....it may sound that way because i am short tempered today.
SO.
i am on the phone this a.m. w/my mom and she tells me that RiteAid is moving to the new walker track.
OMFG.
you have GOT to be kidding me.
<vent>
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.......CHAMBERSBURG DEVELOPERS & BUSINESSES ... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STOP MOVING YOUR BUSINESSES TO A NEW LOCATION.....PLEASE BRING US NEW BUSINESSES......maybe, rite aid, staples, giant and all of you who have relocated 3 blocks away and left empty store fronts to become our new slums of the town...maybe it isn't the location.....MAYBE IT'S YOU....maybe we're SICK to DEATH of your products that we shop in Hagerstown/Carlisle/Mechanicsburg.
We do not need 2 giants. We do not need another RiteAid..
We shop in other towns because they offer us stuff we DON'T HAVE.....
</vent>
so, my beloved forum users....let us use this to vent some more....maybe....just MAYBE someone will hear us.
and, my questionable business developers and/or businesses thinking of relocating........please use this poll/thread as a guide to see where you can improve things or where things are runnign amok.
i promise that i will try to get a good night's sleep soon so i don't get agitated so quickly. but i HAD to get this off of my chest....... |

| i completely agree with you cookieclaygirl. we need NEW businesses and the old ones can stay where they are. I vote a million times for a Carraba's restaurant! I'd also like to see a Pier One or Bed, Bath and Beyond. who shops at Ride Aid anyways? |

| Old Navy, Pier 1, something with some style! Even if it is a Sam's Club I would take it. |

i think we need another walmart, haven't we reached that size yet?
opening 2 stores would increase sales, i know many people who can't deal with how crowded and inconvinient it is to go there |

I actually live on the north side of Chambersburg and very much appreciate the new Giant. Both seem to do pretty good business and with a huge development proposed near Gabler Tract, it certainly makes sense.
The Rite Aid is in a bad location at this time, and they're looking at some stiff, upcoming competition from the Walgreen's being built next to Taco Bell.
Also, the developers don't bring in new businesses... the businesses have to bring themselves. And there are HUGE barriers to decent restaurants. Liquor licensing. We live in a very prudish, conservative area that still thinks it's 1952. Liquor licenses are way too expensive for independent restaurant owners, and as far as I know, with a limited number available there no longer ANY liquor licenses currently available for ANY restaurant, regardless of how much they're willing to pay. According to rumors, this is why Olive Gardon opened in Hagerstown and not Chambersburg Commons.
So, long story short, no more restaurants will be relocating to Chambersburg if they serve alcohol. Chain restaurants WILL NOT open a restaurant dry. Many have shown interest in the land around the mall, but Greene Township is dry and, as a result, the mall is dead. Yes, it is directly related to being in a dry township.
Even if liquor licenses were available, Carraba's would be unlikely; if you look at their locations, they're spread out much farther than places like Olive Garden, TGIFridays or Ruby Tuesday. With a Frederick and Harrisburg area location, I don't think they'd open in-between.
I wouldn't rule out Bed, Bath & Beyond or a Borders/B&N; after all, there is still a huge space of land across from Giant/Target/Kohls available. Pier One is also possible. All of these stores usually open in communities with either a higher population or higher median income, so I think it will depend how well the recently-built stores perform. |

I like the way you think piehole, but you're going to have to move someplace where people have a lot more money if you want a Williams-Sonoma or Nordstroms!
Like Boca Raton.
Also, FYI... Sharper Image declared chapter 11 bankruptcy this week and they're closing about 100 stores.
I think that the thing with Sharper Image is that everyone wants to browse through their stores, but no one actually wants to buy any of that crap |

Seriously, what am I going to do with a massaging digital voice recorder? Really? Oh, it's also men's shaving kit? Keep going... it extends into a golf club?

Ya'll are ruthless!
I love Boca Raton! I concede I never 'bought' anything from Sharper Image, but I did enjoy 'browsing' as you indicated. The surest way to a store's demise.
Are you saying no WholeFoods as well? Say it isn't so!

Oh, now a Whole Foods would be great, but I have a feel our conservative community wouldn't want any of that "hippy crap" anywhere near them.
Yes, I am a little bitter.
At least there's Wegman's in Mechanicsburg (and I believe one is planned for Frederick). |

Did I mention Home Depot???? I'm soooooo tired of the BS at Lowes !!!! _________________ Certainly there is no hunting like the hunting of man and those who have hunted armed men long enough and like it, never really care for anything else thereafter. |

Cookie, ya gotta give up on the Wegman's. They're not coming here. EVER. In fact, Giant building a second store in town will likely scare away any new competition.
At least Giant doesn't suck... but it's no Wegman's. |
