Chel, it seems you have been offered plenty of help with some of the schooling issues. If you don't find satisfactory answers, I could put you in touch with one of my sisters. She is the biggest advocate of raising a child with ADD that I know of. She has some kind of masters degree in childhood development. Although she works in North Carolina as head of child welfare and educational development, I don't think state laws differ all that much.

Now, as for my advice. (And I said this before, if you recall) You need to take that child rollerskating. It is the single best way to expend all that energy, not to mention getting great exercise. It is relatively cheap compared to other activities. There is a cheap session on Tuesday nights at Red Bridge which is not really crowed (like Friday and Saturday nights) if he doesn't know how to skate yet. They have a website, although I have forgotten offhand what it is, but I can find it. They usually change their hours towards the summer, so I can't really say for sure what their hours are currently.

But, I mean it!! You NEED to take that child rollerskating!! At least once...just try it. You might enjoy it yourself, as you don't need to get almost naked to exercise there, unlike Golds gym. *I'd insert a smiley, but I don't know how.

Mom4,

I used to skate ALL the time as a kid!!! And you are absolutely right, I DO need to take him skating. We went to Red Bridge once for one of his schoolmates birthday party. I was impressed about how well it was organized.
I hereby promise that he will be taken skating on a Tuesday before the middle of April!

As for the smileys, just click on one. The necessary components will appear at the end of your typing (for instance, a colon : and a capital 'D' together will make the big grin shown above.) If you want to plant them in the middle of your typing and forgot to click on it then you can cut and paste them anywhere, just remember to leave a space between them and your words or they may not show up as faces.
And once you realize which symbols do what, you can just type them in yourself.

Also: check to make sure you have smilies enabled. (it is in the list of boxes to check below your text box, better known as the box you type in!) Wink

Check with the school district, even if your child isn't in school yet. When my rugger was in, I think, third grade, we went to a parenting class taught by one of CASD's guidance counselors. The cost was $5 and we were able to talk to other parents about issues we were having, our own attitudes, watch videos of different behaviors and discipline methods, went over learning processes AND we got a nifty book to keep!

The class was one evening a week for six weeks, I believe. It reminded me of a mini pyschology class, with focus on development, but some of the things I had not covered in any of my Psych courses, so it wasn't exactly the same. We did not attend every class due to scheduling problems and I've been thinking of attending it again. There was mom in our class whose son was in Jr. High who was taking the class again since her child was starting to take on teenage 'characteristics'. And now my already horrible paragraph is becoming even more poor so I'm going to end it now.

On another note:
Does anyone have a toddler through kindergartner I can borrow so I don't feel odd watching "Yo Gabba Gabba!" ? That show is addictive!

Check with Franklin County Human Services office downtown and the Frances Leiter Center. They put out this list of upcoming webinars and events that are free to the public. Everything in parenthood from planning it to teenagers and college financing stuff. I've seen the list a few times and it has interesting info in it, but have never done one of the webinars myself.

There used to be a place called ESCAPE - can't remember the acronym right now, but it was a parent-child center down by Olympia Ice Cream Parlor. I think they closed, but they might have another office nearby.

I have no idea what ESCAPE does or where it is located, but I sure like the name... I have visions of sound proofed, adult-only rooms where masseuses work out all the knots and trays of chocolate truffles sit near bottomless glasses of champagne.
Oooh, oooh and hot tubs and suanas!

A place where children are penned up, exercised, and drained of their energy supply (which is then given, in easy to swallow pill form, to the parents when they choose to leave the wonderful magical room mentioned above.) Biodegradable microchips, which deteriorate harmlessly after a period of 25 years are inserted into the little imps and 'help' them to do their homework, chores, clean up after themselves and follow parental instruction and advice, all the while retaining their individuality and 'charm'.

Update for those who are interested.

Well, my little monster has an appointment with Base Services for evaluations. I believe my insurance will cover it, (it covers everything else) but we have been warned we will have to cough up the difference, if any.
I can't say that having to pay for insurance doesn't, surprises me, but now I'm worried about what exactly we're talking about cost wise. (I'm a worrier, in case you haven't noticed.)
There is a chance that a TSS may be what my son requires.

I have a gist of what is going on and I feel a little better than I did before. I guess we have now entered 'wait for it' mode. Time to work on those patience skills. Confused
