So, as I understand, for now the demolition and removal of the skatepark in Ship in "on hold". No thanks to counselmember Hockersmith.

This is a very important part for some of the kids who, for one reason or another choose to use this area.

For the most part, they are not bad kids, they do not litter, they do not tear up the DONATED equipment, and they are not disrespectful. It is a place where they can go and do their thing. LET THEM CONTINUE TO HAVE IT! If it has to be moved, the boro should move it themselves. NOT TAKE IT AWAY.

Mr. Hockersmith said awhile back that he was against the 17-year-old curfew. Mr. Hockersmith, does it take a bowling ball dropped on your foot to realize that the destruction of the park is being done by these unsupervised older teens, who should have a curfew, that is ruining the park for everyone? Look. Listen. Learn.

Remember the "old days"? It's 11:00 p.m., do you know where your children are?

The skate park has been there for years in Shippensburg and it has been a great place for area youth. Seriously, do you think they'd be better off at home playing video game or out doing drugs? This was a great thing for the community and when I lived up there I would often pass the skate park packed with kids doing nothing other than having fun.

So, why the sarcastic tone pathfinder?

I suppose Path doesn't believe that kids need a place to "hang out" that also doubles as a source of real exercize. (Other than using the fingers on the keyboards or the thumbs on the play syations.)

Hey, I skateboarded 45 plus years ago! Nothing like today's kids, however! WOW!

I think the skate park is a great idea...I think most adults/law enforcement would rather have kids skating/bmx-ing at the park rather than on the street and sidewalk. It's much safer and doesn't cause any damage to public property i.e. waxed/crumbling curbs, etc. It'll be a shame if it's torn down...in fact it looks to be in pretty bad shape, it should be revitalized.

So many kids today are into the skateboarding scene. I say keep it and revitalize it. Get the kids away from their computer/video games and outside for a change.

If it cannot be saved, i hear a really nice, large skatepark will be opening soon in waynesboro.

As a kid we never had a skatepark but we had the old Community Center to drop some quaters in to have light on the court. But it all served the same purpose and that was to give the kids something to do and be active. Kids dont need to be inside playing video gmaes or out " crusing" which will lead to things that are not good.

As far as the curfew goes they need to keep it. I can remember as a 16 year old one time getting stopped by the Shipp police and was ticketed for being out that late. The thing is I lied to my parents and told them that my boss wanted me to work late and I had no real reason to be out other than the fact that I was driving up and down the main drag.

Concrete was poured. Its located at Pine Hill Rec center. In between Waynesboro and Blue Ridge Summit.

View from the new skate park...
