Since I like to gorge on sushi I usually decline the soup and salad, but I thought you received both as with the meal, but good stuff! Was it the soft spoken waiter? His service is excellent, but he's so quiet sometimes I need him to repeat himself.

It was the soft-spoken, low-English waiter, but he's so friendly; despite the cultural barrier, you can tell that he genuinely wants you to enjoy your experience.

Next time I will probably decline the soup and salad in order to "gorge" on sushi myself; I just thought I'd take it all in on my first experience. If soup AND salad come with the meal though, I can only say that's a bargain.

I often take a specific attitude toward Chinese buffets, and that is to "beat" the buffet. No soft drinks, no dessert; just go for the good stuff.

Which brings me to another discussion; what's the best local Chinese buffet? I can only think of two myself in Chambersburg; the one by K-Mart (next to the old Staples) and the one by Ollie's. I think the one by Ollie's wins, but I haven't been to the other in a while. Thoughts?

The China Wok by Giant and the UPS store on Wayne? In Frederick, the China Wok is great, but I was disappointed by this one. They're still good, but not AS good. If there is another place on Wayne, I'm unfamiliar.

King, or whatever it is now, (it has gone through at least three name changes in 3 & 1/2 years!) by Ollies--I've stuffed myself there quite a few times! The last time I went it was crowded and the food was less than pleasing, but since I've had decent food there before I'll give them another few chances.

Between those two local choices I'd have to pick the one by Ollies. If there is another around and it is comparable I'll give you an answer in the next few days (I trust you not to send me somewhere awful, Coppy ---Not that I don't take EVERY review into account, some just carry more weight!)

Ah, China Wok is take-out only, by the Giant on Wayne Ave. However, there is a Chinese Buffet (and I think the name of it is, literally, "Chinese Buffet") by the Kodak store in between K-Mart and where Staples used to be.

You can't go by names, because there's an interesting procedure to take-out Chinese, besides the name change every few months. They all get their supplies from the same one or two companies and they all have the same names, just in different communities. So there is probably a China Wok in Chambersburg, Greencastle, Waynesboro, Hagerstown and Frederick, but they're probably not affiliated at all. So, in essence, I rarely refer to them by name, just by what they are near.

So, the China King/Emperor/ChinaAwesome/RiceBowl/Whatever it's called now (next to Ollies) is still probably the best place, for me, for Chinese buffet, but the only other actual buffet I know of in C'Burg is the one near K-Mart.

So try it out and let me know what you think Very Happy

Best wings? Before and After in Ship! Many sauces to savour, price is right, wing nights, take out, deserts, and in downtown Shippensburg!

Another place that is lovely to dine-in. Black Horse Dinning and Tavern in the Shippen Place Hotel. I ordered the prime rib the first time. I can only say that we had to take a picture of the meat because that darn thing took over the entire plate! It melted in our mouths. My visiting parents ate there every meal and raved over everything. You must try the french fried sweet potatoes. Truly amazing! It also is conviently located on King in Downtown Ship.


P.S. Can we get another "Movie Mom"? Perhaps, someone who can write a real review.

I forgot one!!

The "Chinese Restaurant--Next to Ollies" is called Jade Garden. We don't eat much of the regular food in there. But, we do go in all the time for the Mongolian BBQ. You pick what you want in way of meats and veggies and noodles, add your wines, sauces, and oils, and let the gentleman cook it up for you! It takes a while before you figure out what is the exact mix of the ingredients to suit your taste. However, once you've mastered that you have a complete meal in one bowl. We usually have ours made and take home. Delicious.

One reccomendation for them would be to add lamb to the meat selection (traditional Mongolian BBQ meat) and sesame oil out all the time. I love the sesame oil and have to ask for it each time.

B&A does have some excellent wings and they are open 24 hours (sorta). They have cheap wing nights and although it can get crowded with school in sessions, it's worth it.

I like their hot garlic but they make a ridiculous combination of wing flavors from about three or four sauces. Stop in and say hi to Shannon, the owner. Always good to support local businesses. They also make a good quesadilla and cheeseburger wrap.

Shippen Place/Black Horse has excellent steaks and a nice patio too for having some drinks over the summer. Not a great beer selection but their bartenders are top notch.

Wine is actually easier than beer in my opinion but I haven't made it in a while; I also found whites to leave more margin of error as opposed to red. Oh well though, that's part of the fun!

I rarely, rarely drink. I don't have anything against it, I just don't care for it. (Unless I have bronchitis and need some brandy or cognac for the bad cough.)

However, while stationed in West Germany (before the reunification) we met an Army 1st Sgt who married a girl who somehow fled East Germany before the wall was built and she hadn't been back since. (1988) For a present they brought to our home a bottle of "ice wine". It was explained that the frapes were the last ones picked off the vines after the first freeze. To me, all wines taste like vinegar (except warmed plum wine).

WOW, were we surprized when even my husband (who doesn't drink at all) liked the taste of this very sweet, German white wine. I think it was called
Schwartzen Katz or Black Cat in English.

I believe that Erie, Pa., vineyards make ice wine. They also make ice wine chocolate, which I've had.
