Anyone know of anything else thats gong out there? I mean they destroyed lots of farm land for another Sheetz, another Giant, a Target, Staples Relocated, and a Circuit City. How about a Borders, or a Home Depot? Hell, why don't we just throw another Wal-Mart out there why not? I mean Greencastle has 4 car washes and nowhere good to eat! I wish they would put something different in the area... _________________ Sell Your Stuff For Free!

No farmland was destroyed. The Gabler Tract hadn't been farmed for years, and it was sold by the owners. It's land along the interstate which should be developed. I have expressed my opinions about this many, many times but I feel that the land along the Interstate should be developed to pave the way for Chambersburg to enter the 21st century (finally) and that the acres and acres of seemingly endless farmland all over the county, and away from the highway, should and will remain untouched.
I definitely understand your frustration bmroyer. I should point out that living on the north end of town really makes the development there a major convenience for me. And as Chambersburg continues to grow (a large development is being built nearby as well) it will make even more sense. We'd all like to see a Borders and some more high brow places, but I think that will come with the population.
I don't know what to tell you about Greencastle. There isn't much going on there and I'm not sure that community is benefiting from its own access to the highway. Unfortunately its been developed as more of a truck stop than a community. But I digress, at least you have the coffee roasters (by far the most unique shop in Franklin County, if the ONLY unique shop). Cafe Del Sol is a nice, casual restaurant as well.
I'm still holding out for another Wine & Spirits store to open by the new Giant so I don't have to continue to running all over town for groceries and wine. So, yeah, maybe I'll never be happy either but I see what's currently happening as much more an asset than a liability. |

My frinds in Mechanicsburg love WEGMAN's.. I wish Shipp would get a Albertson's. Wow sounds like Chambersburg has really grown since I moved out of state. |

Dear Chambersburg,
I am never, ever, ever in the history of the universe ever locating to an area like Chambersburg. Giant has saturated the market and, quite frankly, we don't think the people in the area will appreciate it very much. So stop asking.
Sincerely,
Wegmans
PS - Albertson's only operates in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Florida.
PSS - My friend Borders tells me he's interested in Chambersburg, but wants proof that people there actually read books. |

I use to live in FLA and fell in love with them. I like Barnes and Nobles more than Borders. |

I've relegated all of my book shopping to Amazon and Half.com but I do like to browse in the big stores. I also prefer B&N, but beggars can't be choosers.
Florida's basically run by Publix now. They're running all the Albertson's and Winn-Dixie's out of business. |
