I am hoping someone can guide me in the right direction. We currently live in Saint Thomas however my daycare for the past 5 years is in Chambersburg. It is now time to register my 5 year old for Kindergarten, however they said that in order for my son to go to Chambersburg I will have to pay $30.00 a day that is about $700.00 a month all because I do not want to change my daycare. This is ridiculous why should I change my daycare? I am willing to pay both Saint Thomas tax and Chambersburg. Anyone have any suggestions so that we do not have to move or change daycare providers?
Thanks in advance,

move to chambersburg, or have him go to st. thomas?
this is how taxes/school districts work, and why people consider schools when they buy a house |

I rent my house from someone and no it is not rent to own.
They are not offering daycare up here plus I work until 6pm and not very many people in this state offer daycare for $75 a week for two kids and work with my hours. I just think that it is ridiculous that I have to change not only my daily routines but my childrens routines to statisfy the school district. The only other option is to use my mother's address correct? _________________ TJG |

As a parent I can understand frustration but that last sentence really baffles me, do want a SD that would cater to every parents schedule and wishes? I mean as a parent you always look at your school district when you have children to see the policies. |

Well I apologize that my complaint baffles you, but do you watch Nancy Grace? Have you ever had a babysitter that neglected your child? Well I have and I refuse to put him through that again. I am not asking the school district to cater to my needs all I am saying is it is a bunch of crap and as long as I am paying taxes that is all that should matter. Charge me both taxes I could really care less, but I refuse to change my daycare arrangements for any reason.
Its ok that the children 4 houses up from me can go to CASD, however my children must go somewhere else. Shouldnt I have the choice in where I want my child to get an education? You dont hear of CASD releasing children due to bomb threats do you?
If someone has a copy of the law stating that my child must go to school in this district please forward me the link. _________________ TJG |

TJG,
It's okay. I understand where you are coming from. My sister went to a school 30 minutes away from home because she had a great sitter. It was not in this state, but parents face situations similar to yours all the time.
I'm afraid your best solution is to use your mother or sitter's address and not talk about it too much (some people may rat you out for whatever reason.)
Best of luck to you. _________________ I demand euphoria! |

Hey thanks alot I really appreciate it. Some people just think everyone is rich and can afford to move when need be or change sitters however I am a young mother and I know what I can and cant afford. Some people have their head so far up their butts they dont think about other peoples money situations or the fact that they are single parents.
Take care and thanks again! _________________ TJG |

Wait, I am far from even being middle class, but sometimes things in life are not always easy. I am just saying that you were upset that you canot understand why the school is making YOU change your life and routine as if this policy was directed at yo only and everyone else in the SD gets to follow some other rule. You have to sometimes take what happens, when I lived in HBG they redrew the SD lines and my daughter went from going to CD to CD East and we lived less than 1/8th of a mile from the CD School but the new lines were drawn and we lost. things happen, we adjusted and now everything is ok. Please dont make yourself out to be the "martyr" of all single parents. |

Hey Paul:
Was you child ever beaten by someone who was watching him/her? Was your child ever starved for 8 hrs? Probley not. Now maybe you will see why I am so upset and refuse to trust anyone else with my children.
This is what is wrong with some of the people that post on here. You dont know everything so you think that I am saying oh well they should change it for me. I have reason to want this changed and if you even say well other parents have had this happen to them too then may god help you. _________________ TJG |

Since you want to see who has had the worse life I can tell you that my daughter was molested at age 5 by her Mother's Grandfather when her grandparents would babysit. Perhaps I can tell you about sitting in the HBG Emergency room talking to Cops, Socaail workers, and having your daughter use a Teddy Bear to explain how PaP Pap would wash her in the tub. Please dont get me started.
If you want to be the poster child for the single parent then fine, but don't expect everyone to not point out things that are facts and real life. |

It sounds as though TJG and Paul have had completely awful situations. I would be lying if I said I know where either of you are coming from. I truly don't know what I'd do if either incident happened to my child.
Paul,
It is not my intent to try and force you to change your mind. (If it is made up, I don't believe I could begin to try!) BUT I did not read TJG's posts as those of someone who wanted the system to be changed for her convenience, rather I took as the posts of someone who had received bad news, was wound up with worry, stress and maybe even a little panic. I bet you know the feeling:
Oh crap, I have to deal with this right nowandsomethingelsehashappenedWhatifsomethinghorriblehappenstomy childIWANTTHEBESTFORHIMandI'MaBADPARENTandIFEELSOALONERIGHTNOW and what am I going to do???!!!!
Sometimes you just need someone to remind you take a few breaths and let you know everything will work out---one way or another.
When it comes to being a parent...it's just terrifying sometimes, ya know?
We have to back each other up. _________________ I demand euphoria! |
