Eh, Wegman's is a great excuse for heading up to the Harrisburg area. You can make a day out of it; lots of restaurants, great movie theaters, plus the Whitaker Center and IMAX. A great night-life on second street, the Troegs' Brewery tour, Riverfront Park, City Island and Senators games, and some truly great summer festivals... yeah, I could go on and on. I miss living up there.

You tend to take all those things for granted. Sad

Funny, I grew up in Shipp lived in Mechanicsburg and lived in HBG and now I miss Shipp. Yes it was great living in HBG and having everything a ton of choices of things to do, but it also makes you spend too much $$$$. When you live outside of HBG you tend to plan a trip there.

Maybe when I have a family and settle down, I'll feel the same way. Now I feel like I've got money to burn and nothing to enjoy with it.

if you live on 'the other side of the tracks' (railroad division) it's not 'as cool' when i was in school....alot of elitist snobbery goes on in classrooms (i know it's 'everywhere' but, hey....what can i say!? it's what i experienced lol)

i used to get "oh, you live on that side of town"

and me, being me, would be like: "oh, whatever!"

Cookie, I too was from "that side of town" but I always considered myself lucky to be from that side of town, except of course when Agnes came through and we didn't have anywhere to go on that side of town to get anything we needed, but it was fun watching the "Jig" rise up over it's banks and over the wall on Franklin St. I am also born and raised in Chbg but now live between Cburg and Shipp and love it where I'm at. I think that I enjoy Ship more than Cburg to be honest, because I have seen what has happened to Cburg over time and it hasn't been good. I'm all for the change that is going on around these parts to try to bring us into the 21st century, not only in Cburg but also in Ship.

i actually do agree w/you. it's a quieter pace and everyone seems polite (tho, i've noticed in ship ppl stare at you in restaurants while you eat. odd. cburg we all ignore everyone like they don't exist...i'm learning to 'stare back' LOL)....with walmart and lowe's i wonder what it's evolution will be. hopefully not a mini-cburg. lol...

My sister graduated in 73 also. I would bet your mom and my sis know each other seeing as they were both from the west end of town. We lived on Queen St. and my sister still lives on the same street. In fact, my parents still live there and another sister lives across from them. My sisters and I actually walked across the Commerce St bridge when it was underwater.

We do too Paul. My parents put together a photo album with pics and newspaper clippings from the flood. The one pic from the PO actually showed our street high and dry from the flooding from the Jig. We lived,( my parents still do), above the car wash on Loudon St.

You are talking about the Red Bridge mobile home park. I remember seeing the pic of the trailer that washed up against the bridge out there. They poor people were devastated by the flood waters.

Just wanted to delurk and say I'm enjoying reading all this, even tho' I have no idea what the 'Jig' is or the railroad division or any of that.

I'm guessing that since we live a few blocks from Wilson near Scotland and Norland (way far from the high school) that we're the wrong side...That suits me fine, won't have to yell at near as many kids to get off my lawn! Twisted Evil

NEWays, Thanks for the dialogue.

People often refer to the Conococheague Creek as the "Jig." It's certainly easier to spell. Smile

I wouldn't have understood if someone hadn't explained to me the correct pronunciation ast he Conococheague.

Conn - e (short) - co - jig.

Yes, cheague is basically pronounced "jig." Not like, rhymes with "league." But jig.

I think it's Algonquin for "by the train tracks"
