It seems I'm seriously the first person in the area to recognize this...

The Chambersburg Trojan baseball cap is actually stolen from MLB.

This picture was on the front page:

That's Coach Thomas proudly wearing his Trojans baseball cap. It's nice how the C and T work together with the Trojan color scheme. But, when I mentioned that the Trojan baseball cap was actually the cap worn by MLB's Minnesota Twins, I was met with skepticism on Topix. Did they think that there are so few local baseball fans, no one would notice? I give you some high profile (albeit some former) member of the Minnesota Twins major league baseball team:

Torii Hunter (Now on the Angels):

Johan Santana, baseball's best pitcher (now on the Mets):

2006 American League MVP Justin Morneau:

And first American League catcher to win the league batting title, Joe Mauer (standing in front of the Twins logo):

Anyway; it certainly doesn't matter. But when I mentioned this, I was met with a very matter-of-fact, "That is actually a Chambersburg Trojans' baseball cap."

No, it's a Twins cap.

I'm inclined to agree.

But for arguments sake, who came first and whose logo was established first?

Well, I would simply find it extremely unusual that a Major League baseball team would so obviously adopt its logo from a relatively rural high-school.

After some very brief research, I have found that the Twins have been using the "TC" (not CT) insignia since the team's inaugural year, 1961 when the original Washington Senators relocated there.

Quote:
The "Minnesota" designation, instead of "Minneapolis" (the Twins were the first professional baseball team to be named for a state rather than a city), comes from the fact that the team is intended to represent the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul (and, presumably, the entire state). This fact is reinforced by the stylized TC logo originally worn on their caps, and by their mascot, TC Bear.

Someone would have to provide some sort of evidence that the Trojans wore the very some logo prior to 1961. As far as I can tell, CASHS dates back to 1955...

I agree, that MLB sniping logos from HS sports would be highly unlikely, but I rely on you to do the legwork. Very Happy

I think it's pretty typical for scholl and community teams to borrow from the big dogs---my kid played Little League with the Red Sox a few years back and my HS football team was the Patriots.

To deny that this borrowing has occurred is either an act of idiocy or loyalty with a wink (no other team matters more than my____)

I guess I'm being a bit of a curmudgeon; I played little league myself for the "Tigers," the "Mets" and even the "Expos" all wearing the same hat as the MLB team. That's pretty standard. I guess I bring it up because, when I played baseball in high school, I don't recall many teams using an established MLB logo on their hats. And my team even played Chambersburg... maybe I don't remember very well. It doesn't matter much any which way, I'm just responding to the defensiveness I received on Topix when I broached the subject.

I do remember playing Waynesboro, an excellent HS baseball team with an unbelievably talented pitcher named Matt White. We beat him 1-0... barely. It may have been his only loss of that season. He was drafted out of high school by Tampa Bay, signing a huge contract. Last I heard he retired due to injuries about two years ago without ever playing a single major league game... a millionaire.
