| Yes, I remember you mentioning Efrains and it has been on my list for some time. I don't make it to Hagerstown quite as much as I used to (I used to work there actually and commuted from Chambersburg) but now my trips are generally solely for the beer selection and ability to buy reasonably priced six-packs and individual bottles. |

| Actually, Efrains is closed. Rumor is they had tax problems. It's been replaced by another Mexican restaurant with sit down service. Chips and salsa while you wait. They have several lunch specials under $5. Food was good, but nothing great. Their biggest problem is that few employees seem to speak adequate English. I ordered takeout last week and while I was waiting I watched a "discussion" between an employee and patron where lack of language skills was a problem. They tried to charge me twice for my meal and I wasn't able to communicate that. Had to wait for someone to come from the back who spoke better English. I miss Efrains! |

I just saw this and since I grew up in Shipp I have to say that we always loved The Treat, Diffy's, and Green Village Diner. We use to go to a Sub shop in Chambersburg called Mim's or something like that. It is funny because where I live now, there are no diners or home style cafe's, all brand name restaurants and all my wife can think of is when we get home how we cant waut to eat at those same places that you make fun of. At least if you know the menu at one place you know them all. |

when i was commuting from cburg to ship, i'd get behind this ridunkulously slow driver. would pull in my anger and wait for him/her to putter along. and lo and behold every time they'd pull into there.
greenvillage diner = slow driving customers.
(just from an amused observation)
but, this equation can't always be turned around
slower drivers [do not always] = greenvillage diner customers.
however, many of them do eat there.
will have to check out aqua. sounds good. let's make it a forum date! lolz.... |
My mother always went because of the fries |

I understand the nostalgia value that some of these places offer; I'm not really commenting on that though. This is what I think, and I think those places are just awful.
I have been meaning to try Mim's though.
I'm not a big fan of The Treat either; I wouldn't go so far as to say it sucks, but it's pretty much on par with what I think of Kenny's Drive In. |

Well I only get Grapenut Ice Cream at The Treat. I was more of a Route 30 diner man, If I had to eat in Shipp it wound up being the Truck Stop or Pizza House |

Ugh, Pharo's.... not a fan. I'd go to Before & After before I go there again.
Pizza House? Do you mean Pizza Man or Pizza N' Stuff? Or do you mean that place that had the $4 large pizzas? |

Yes the $4.00 pizza House or if you were from Shipp you knew it as Mary's. Great Pizza, Cheap Prices, and if you were a young male their daughter was cute... LOL |

I just talked to a co-worker about Pizza House and he claims that their cheese is "fake." I think he might be right, and by "fake" I think he means processes... using an American cheese instead of mozzerella.
That's breaking the golden rule of pizza, and should not be allowed to call itself as such if this is true.
Granted, Paul, I think that it has changed since you went there... Pizza House was never open late and held very inconsistent hours when I lived in Ship. |
