I see DeEtta wants to place timber cutting restrictions on any timber 8" or larger PLUS a minimum building setback of 200'.
Is this all to protect the fragile environment or is it just a clever way in which to block the shelter from moving to this location.
Whatta ya think? |

I see a big difference between an ethanol plant and cutting down trees. It is always a shame to see an old tree fall, but why not just ask the animal shelter to plant twice as many new trees as the amount they cut?
This seems more like a disapproval of the shelter's location than an attempt to protect the environment. If I was Ms. Antoun I would not expect the same amount of support as with the ethanol issue. _________________ Nevermind. |

It sounds like the humane society and the citizens' group are on the same page here as far as protecting the trees. The citizens' group just wants something in writing. I hope they get this worked out without it turning into a huge controversy.

I am as much a tree hugger as any.
I think the problem here is trust. Antoun does not trust a verbal response and wants some kind of legal document.
If someone wantd me to sign some legal document that says I can't cut down a tree in my yard, I wouldn't sign it. I would agree to do what ever I could to save the trees but sign something legal - no way.
Why doesn't everyone wait to see the plans?
Maybe the Shelter should offer to "lease" the trees as a way to get donations. Say $100 or $500 or $1,000 gets you a plaque on a tree and the tree doesn't get cut. Then maybe Antoun can use her energy to raise money to save the trees. The shelter then has some incentive not to call in Paul Bunyon. |

I agree. Sometimes you just can't save a tree on your property and by signing a legal document you just leave yourself open for future hassles.

Clever ,Dave! Now someone just has to pass the tip onto Antoun. _________________ Nevermind. |
