i'm so glad i know this now, if the 3 am phone is a take-out joint, i want a president who will make a good choice on what to eat.

I think it's because Kerry got absolutely destroyed for ordering a cheesesteak with swiss. Blaspheme! Reading the whole article, it seems that candidates consider it safer to avoid regionally specific foods with strict ordering guidelines than to screw them up.

It probably is; swiss cheese on a cheesesteak? I didn't even know that was an option.

I haven't eaten at McD's since 2004 ( a streak I'm quite proud of) and I'm done with burger king after a really bad whopper on consecutive occasions. Wendy's has better choices, but some of the restaurants are downright bad... I still have to try a baconator. I just want to have a defibrillator near by.

As for fast food, i'm partial to Hardee's, Arby's, and, surprisingly, Taco Bell (they have a strange hold on me from my college years despite their inherent grossness). I like Quizno's and Chipotle for better quality fast food.

There's a Chipotle in Hagerstown, so you're not out of luck. And there's also the slightly inferior Moe's in Chambersburg now (although I don't see why people hate it so much).

I have to admit, considering fast food places only, Hardee's makes the best burgers.

Granted, I've never tried Jack in the Box or In and Out.

I agree Pennsylvania is known for some unbelievably strange food combinations in sandwich form. The cheesesteak is something I would typically despise, drenched in melted process cheese product... but I understand the sentimentality, and I also admit they're an indulgence everyone should try at some point.

And then there's the Primanti sandwich in Pittsburgh, which is some sort of sandwich (I'm partial to pastrami myself) with fries and cole slaw in the sandwich itself. I'm sure you've all at least heard someone talk about these. The Cottage makes a highly inferior version.

But cheese-fries? Cheese fries are extremely popular all over New York and New Jersey (especially in all of those diners), although they are topped with real cheese like mozzerella or provolone. If PA has any slightly gross obsession, it's with American cheese.

Cole slaw shouldn't be on the side when it comes to BBQ, but that's not the strange part about the Primanti... it's the french fries. They're in the sandwich.

Cole slaw (like ketchup) never belongs on a hot dog IMO.
