Here is why I know Shipp hasn't changed too much because I was talking to a person living in Shipp and when I brought up Chambersburg his exact quote was " George, you have no idea how it has changed, so many Hispanics live there now that the black came to Shipp to live" That is one of the most racial lines I ever heared anyone say.

So how does someone respond to something like that? I confess I often let that kind of thing slide, but it seems to me that it's really up to whites to address the racism problem. It's a problem in our community.

Coppy was talking earlier in another thread about Pee Wee Reese and Jackie Robinson. Robinson did his part to keep the conflict down as much as he could, but nothing changed until the white man confronted the racists.

I really don't know what I would have said to that one. I believe all are equal and I probably would have explained to that person what his remark meant to me and that I would have voiced my opinion, but by the sounds of it, my opinion wouldn't have made any difference.

knowing me, and i'm usually pretty frank, i would've commented as the following:

/snort

omg...are you retarded or just living in a shallow, non-evolved petrie dish?

(btw...sorry about the retarded bit, i use it loosely in special cases...just so i can pre-buffer any comments about that one)

I myself don't think its right to be gay or bisexual. I believe that if a man and a man or a woman and a woman were meant to be together, than they should be able to reproduce with one another. But thats just one opinion out of millions. Its a free country so they should be able to do whatever they want to.
But look at it this way. If gays can be together, then others should be able to marry their dog, other animals, their car. Hell anything they have feelings for! We can't speak our minds anymore because it "offends" people. Gays will be together no matter what anyone thinks.

See, I don't understand this at all... I agree we're all entitled to our opinion, but we're talking about human beings here. Not dogs, or other animals or inanimate objects. People. I don't think it's fair or responsible to compare gay couples to "man-dog" couples, which is essentially what you're doing.

Let me just poke a hole in your analysis. You don't think homosexuality is right because they can't reproduce with each other. OK, so what about a heterosexual couple who can't reproduce for other reasons? What if one of the two is sterile since birth... is that God's way of saying that they should not be with someone they love? What if someone is disfigured or in an accident rendering them sterile; should they be cast out of any sort of relationship because of their inability to reproduce?

Of course not, and I assume you don't think that. But it's not far off from your own justification that couples incapable of sexual reproduction should not be together, or that a relationship between a human and an animal or car is somehow comparable to the relationship between two humans, regardless of gender.

I understand your frustration with the issue of irritating someone with your beliefs or opinions. My view on this is, everyone has an opinion, and they have a right to that, but also, that opinion also hinders the person to be open to new ways or to actually see that it isn't as bad as they make it out to be.

I believe that they need to come up with a solution for gay partners. Even if it is to allow civil unions so that the couple can be seen as a couple in the eyes of the law so that they can get health insurance for their partner and make up a will so that their personal property is not taken away from them in the event of death, or so that the other partner gets custody of the children. It isn't that hard of a solution. But everyone seems to agree to disagree on this issue. It seems as if the gays want marriage and not civil union and others don't want any kind of union at all. I don't see what the big deal is if it is a matter of unity that is needed for insurance and other purposes, why they can't just allow it to be so. Let the gay couples go in front of a magistrate and have a unity ceremony, what would be the problem in that?

I know that you mean well, but civil unions does not give partners right to share the same privileges as married partners. Civil Union will not give the right for a partner to put their partner on their medical insurance, or other aspects of marriage that a civil union will not condone.

That probably depends on how the state defines their civil unions, doesn't it? I seem to remember reading about states with civil union laws that do allow health insurance benefits.

Maybe you know - is there a difference between civil unions and domestic partnerships?

Pennsylvania does not recogniaze domestic partnership, they used to but that was nixed. Civil Union and domestic partnership is differant because with a civil union you have somewhat more legal standing, not much but some.

Yeah, that is all well and good for New Jersey but I can say, I definitely will not be moving to Jersey, LOL. I like it here and really do not want to have to move to achieve benefits for my partner. I used to be able to cover my partner on my medical benefits until the state decided that domestic partners were not recognizable which prompted the my medical insurance to drop my partner.
