I am officially boycotting the Franklin County fair due to lousy food choices:

Quote:
4-H Baby Beef and Pig Clubs: Hamburgers, porkburgers, hot dogs/sauerkraut and lemonade

Chambersburg Rod and Gun Club: Breakfast platters, country ham sandwiches, bean soup, egg sandwiches, coffee, hot chocolate, lemon blend, home fries, broasted potatoes

Franklin County 4-H: Ice cream, milk shakes, frozen yogurt

Fort Loudon Ruritan Club and Trinity United Church of Christ of Fort Loudon: The Chicken House, with chicken dinners and homemade pies

Mercersburg Sportsmen: French fries and shrimp

Stoner's: Hoagies

Conococheague FFA: Pizza and sodas

IT'S 2008, NOT 1958!

Where's my food-on-a-stick???!!!

That's what happens in a town that votes for McDonalds for "best burger" every year.

Mmmmm.

Corndogs with jalapenos in the batter.

Turkey legs.

Fried Twinkies (finally tried one of those last year, pleasantly surprised that I didn't die)

Fried Snickers

Funnel Cakes

Cotton Candy

I'm sure there is some other candy bar they now put on a stick and fry, I just can't think of it....

Well, on the bright side, the MD Renaissance Fair will soon be opening for the year and their food (and spirits) are very nice. Very Happy

I'm sorry, Coppy, but I want to check out these local fairs.

But I do promise not to buy any unappealing food!

Ugh, I've never tasted such a funky, bland meat before I tried ox... no wonder people around here love it so much. But, when all the food is served up by volunteer fire fighters, future farmers of America and churches, what do you expect?

Well, I want some wacky fair food. Besides the list that chel mentioned, there's some great stuff out there. Mostly deep friend stuff, like soda and mac & cheese (yes, fried soda, look it up). There's also italian sausages with peppers and onions, waffles and ice cream (a delicious Pennsylvania creation I've NEVER seen around here), soft pretzels, kebabs, and cheese fries.

Yes, it's all incredibly bad for you, but why else are you going to the Franklin County Fair? There isn't even funnel cake listed...

But no fear... Stoner's will have hoagies. Yippee. Do you think the FFA will get their pizza and sodas from Dominoes or Pizza Hut?

Two years ago there was an "international food festival" downtown that was mostly great. There was Thai, Greek and Mexican. Some unique stuff. I only thought it could improve... but hardly anyone knew about it then, and as far as I know, they haven't had it since. What a downer.

Wow, there's also an admission fee each day? Oh, but only if you go after 1:30 pm (since no one in Franklin County has a job).

That settles it; I'm definitely not going.
